My college experience

When I first came to college, I was a psychology major. I had wanted to pursue psychology since middle school so I was very excited to start taking the classes. My interest unfortunately burned out in the subject but luckily there is no limit on how many times you can change your major at this college. Before making a switch I wanted to make sure I was definite on it so I added a journalism minor. Once I started taking some classes I realized it was what I wanted to do. I switched my major and have met some wonderful professors and advisors Oswego has so kindly provided me with. The staff here is truly unmatched. I always feel supported in my education and progress and I know that there are always people to talk to should I need help.

Some other wonderful experiences I have had at this school have to do with the town itself. My friends and I have had so much fun going to the events the city holds. There is a PumpkinFest in the fall, Harborfest in the summer, and farmers markets on Thursdays. There was even a block party for the Solar Eclipse with live music! It is so enjoyable to be able to immerse yourself in the city you are living in and not be confined to just the campus.

Another thing having to do with the town is that the college allows vendors to come to our campus center to sell their items. There is one couple that comes and sells vintage finds. In freshmen year I would stop by often and they took the time to learn about my friend and I and showed interest in our college journey. They would even find items specific to our interests that we could then buy from them. The school provides these opportunities for local businesses to thrive which I think is a true sign of character.

The last thing that has made my time here so enjoyable is the campus. The first few times I woke up here I couldn’t believe I could see the lake from my room! I have been on countless sunset walks and have not slowed down since being off campus. It is truly such a beautiful place. The campus provides many areas outside to sit and observe or to sit and do homework. When I was still living on campus, in the warmer months I liked to sit at a picnic table near the lake and do work.
